Since finishing cycling as a sport at the old age of 24 and a very gaunt / thin 68 kilos for 1 metre 85, I spent several years after giving up the sport battling with weight.

I was eating very badly and out drinking 3 or 4 times a week and the usual indian or chinese on the way home ( I was living in Germany from 24 -30 years of age , at the time and it was a booze and fast food culture i was living in) my weight shot up to 112 kilos.

The fight back started in earnest when I met macy at 33 she introduced me to a more vegetarian diet , fresh fruit and veg on a daily basis , cutting out red meat and drinking decent wine instead of beer and lager.

During that year I also went back to some kind of fitness regime in the form of our newly aquired dog Spetsie , walking her 2 times a day for 30-45 mins each time.

My weight in 6 months went from 112 kilos to 92 , I felt better but there was still alot to do.

We then moved to France , the food in the shops was far better than the uk and fresher , we ate more fresh fish , the weight went from 92 to 84/85 better but still more to do .

At 39 I listened to Gillian Mckeith the presenter of "you are what you eat ", I was back in the UK visiting family and I was driving up to Leeds and listening to her interview on radio.

I rushed out to buy her book and took on board some of the things she said in the interview straight away.
One big surprise to me was , have a freshly squeezed lemon with boiled luke warm water at the start of every day before you eat anything at all , this flushes out any toxins in your body.

Mixing this with organic muesli with no sugar added instead of sugar puffs or weetabix with sugar poured on them , fresh fruit juice instead of canned/packet sugarloaded stuff , no meat at all , no processed foods , no tinned or bottled sauces and many other things that I changed in what I thought was already a good diet in France.

I am now feeling the fittest for 20 years living in Puglia where there are so many ways to eat well , fresh , organic and drink some of the finest wines in Europe , I am now 78 kilos for 1 metre 85 which is considered lean and very toned/ fit for that height, very little body fat and I do not need to excersize much either to stay this way -- its all down to what you put in your body -- good in good out , rubbish in rubbish out
