Puglia is on Alert after having found fraud on the Internet

More and more people are using the internet, especially sites such as “E-Bay”.

An increased number of Pugliese and Salentini use the internet to purchase or sell. As a result the number of transactions on-line are also increasing but this is also in proportion to the increase in fraudulent use of the internet. More notably there is an increased use of websites produced for uses other than that which they first appear, an equal rise in the number of forged or fictitious emails, more and more cases of “phishing” (used to obtain bank details, personal information such as account or passwords), fraudulent purchases on the net.... etc etc.

But the most difficult aspect of the problem is that our Police are having to spend an enormous amount of energy and human resources to find the mole whilst acknowledging that most Internet fraud comes from outside of Italy and is therefore difficult for them to operate and provide closure.

So those responsible still remain at large, unsensored and continue to do their profitable work of organised crime on the virtual net without being caught or detected. Notably many of the fraudsters have originated from both Spain and England. And for that reason the political party, Italia dei Valori, (IdV is a populist and anti-corruption political party in Italy) proposes that a European Police should be initiated which concentrates solely on the security of the web; co-ordinating with police forces from other European Union member countries.
